We are pleased to welcome you to our world of education, and substitute teaching. As you embark upon the many facets of our curriculum and educational centers, you will find a need to converse with educators and prepare yourself for the many challenges ahead.
In compliance with our guidelines for substitute teacher preparation, you will be required to attend three Basic Training sessions. Once your employment packet is completed you will be scheduled for the next available set of sessions and be notified of such in a letter from the Human Resources Department.
In order for your training as a substitute teacher to be complete, it is imperative that you attend and successfully complete all sessions. The first three sessions will be held at the Howard Adult Education Center at 500 South Kaminski Street. The last (TLS) session will be held at the Beck Administration and Education Center at 2018 Church Street in Georgetown. You will be compensated for your time and effort by being paid a $30.00 stipend if all classes are completed successfully, and after you have substituted one time in the classroom. Your ID card will be made at the end of the third session.
If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher with the GCSD, you will need to obtain the substitute teacher packet by visiting our office or by contacting Ms. Shanika L. Stafford in the Human Resources Department by email at stafford@gcsd.k12.sc.us or by phone at 436-7144.

During the months of May, June, and July there will be no substitute teacher training classes. Click here to download a request form to express your interest in receiving a substitute teacher packet by mail in August. Complete the packet you receive and return it to Shanika L. Stafford in the Human Resources Office. Once the paperwork is received and processed you will receive notification of the training class schedule.
