December 2, 2009 - Change in H1N1 Vaccination Clinic Schedules
DHEC has released its schedule for the second round of H1N1 vaccinations in the Georgetown County School District. Studies have shown that children younger than 10 years of age need two H1N1 vaccinations to be protected. For children younger than 10 in the Georgetown County School District, who have already taken then first vaccination when it was offered in early November, the second vaccination will be offered at the following: Monday, December 7, at Kensington, Andrews and Maryville elementary schools and at Waccamaw Intermediate School, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. On Tuesday, December 8, at Pleasant Hill, Waccamaw, Sampit and McDonald elementary schools from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Vaccinations at Plantersville Elementary will be in the morning, and Brown's Ferry Elementary will be in the afternoon on December 8.
Consent forms were sent home to parents on Monday, November 30, for children younger than 10 who have received the first vaccination. Parents can decide if they want their child to receive the second vaccination that is being offered. Deadline to return the forms is Thursday, December 3.
Students at Andrews Elementary School who were signed up in early November but who did not get their vaccination because time ran out will be offered the vaccination on Monday, December 7.
Middle and high school students whose parents signed consent forms will be offered vaccinations sometime between January 19-22. DHEC has yet to release the exact dates and times for schools. They will be posted as soon as they are available.
October 28, 2009 - Change in H1N1 Vaccination Clinic Schedules
Due to a national shortage in H1N1 vaccine, next week's vaccination clinics at GCSD schools will be limited to the elementary schools and Waccamaw Intermediate School. These vaccination clinics will proceed as planned for those who returned consent forms. Middle and high school vaccination clinics will be rescheduled for a later date. Students will receive a letter to take home to their parents notifying them of this development.
Parents should contact their child's school nurse with questions.

October 20, 2009 - Consent Forms Must Be Signed To Receive H1N1 Shots
Students in Georgetown County School District received letters on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to take to their parents with information about the upcoming H1N1 (swine) Flu vaccinations which will be given to students at schools.
Receiving the shots is optional. They will be provided free of charge. There will be no makeup days to receive shots for those who miss the scheduled school dates.
Included in the information sent home is a consent form from S.C. DHEC. The consent form must be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to school by Monday, Oct. 26, in order for a child to receive the shot.
The shots are scheduled to begin the first week of November. Specific dates for schools is included in the letters sent home with students.
Children less than 10 years of age need two doses of the vaccine. The second shot will be given between Thanksgiving and Christmas break. An information letter on the second vaccine will be sent at a later date.
