Crosby is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Georgetown High senior Emily Crosby, daughter of Dr. Thomas and Lane Crosby, has been named a National Merit Scholarship finalist.  Crosby and her family were recognized at the March 2 Georgetown County School District Board Meeting. Crosby is shown with GHS Principal Dr. Mike Cafaro, who introduced her at the board meeting.

Crosby and the other academically talented high school seniors selected as finalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 8,200 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $36 million, that will be offered this spring.

More than 1.5 million juniors in about 22,000 high schools entered the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

As a finalist, Crosby has shown she has an outstanding academic record throughout high school, has been endorsed and recommended by the Cafaro, and has earned SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test. Each finalist and a high school official has submitted a detailed scholarship application, which includes the student’s essay and information about the student’s participation and leadership in school and community activities.

Congratulations, Emily!
