Miller Partners with Office Depot for Backpacks
S.C. State Representative Vida Miller (D), Pawleys Island and the Office Depot Foundation are pleased to announce that Georgetown and Charleston county schools have been chosen to receive 300 backpacks containing essential school supplies as part of the Foundation’s 2010 National Backpack Program in partnership with the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL). The Office Depot Foundation is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the National Backpack Program this year.
“This is an extremely meaningful program,” said Rep. Miller. “I am honored to have the opportunity to present these backpacks to our schools. With limited school funding, public-private partnerships like this are even more important. As South Carolina’s NFWL Education Team Leader, I commend the Office Depot Foundation and our local Office Depot store in Surfside Beach and Store Manager, Bryan Clark, on their efforts to help our students succeed by providing basic school supplies and incentives to teachers and local schools throughout the year.”
Georgetown County School Superintendent, Dr. Randy Dozier, said, “Our district is most appreciative of this collaboration on behalf of our students.”
By the end of this year Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation will have donated more than 2.3 million backpacks since this program began in 2001. NFWL and the Office Depot Foundation partnership will distribute nearly 18,000 backpacks nationally.
