Georgetown, South Carolina —

On Friday, October 14, 2022, educators from Georgetown County School District (GCSD) are participating in Educators in Industry Day in an effort to promote and support careers in local manufacturing and industry.

Industry professionals from SixAxis, International Paper, Horry Georgetown Technical College, and Tidelands Health are opening their doors to GCSD educators to share the unique career opportunities and career trajectories available for students in Georgetown County.

“GCSD is dedicated to mentoring, connecting, and inspiring our future workforce. This event is an opportunity for our educators and local industry professionals to network together while supporting GCSD’s mission of providing all students with the world class knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for citizenship in a diverse society,” said Dr. Bethany Giles, Assistant Superintendent of Academics & Student Services. “We want every student in GCSD to be successful in their chosen pathway.”

In collaboration with MFG Day, an initiative of The Manufacturing Institute, and Governor Henry McMaster’s proclamation recognizing October as South Carolina Manufacturing Month, Educators in Industry Day is an opportunity for local educators to learn about the existing skills gap and explore ways that GCSD can inspire the future workforce to discover financially rewarding job opportunities in our community.  In addition to participation from local industries, the South Carolina Department of Commerce, SC Works, Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments, Georgetown Economic Development, and the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance have worked in collaboration with GCSD to ensure the day’s success.
