Georgetown County School District recently partnered with Ward Services, an employee benefits support firm, to assist our employees in understanding their benefit options. In addition to supporting new employees as they make benefit decisions, Ward Services will also assist during the upcoming Open Enrollment. Ward Services will have Benefits Counselors in schools and other district locations during the benefits enrollment period to meet with employees one-on-one or virtually to discuss current benefit elections as well as new benefit options.

Why we engaged Ward Services?

GCSD takes pride in ensuring every employee understands your benefit options and that you are able to make well-informed decisions to protect yourself and your family. This means understanding what options are available and making the proper selections to meet your needs. Ward Services provides benefits enrollment services to over 30 other South Carolina school district and has done so for 20+ years. The Ward Services Benefits Counselors are well-trained on all of your benefit options and are salaried meaning they are not insurance salespeople. They are available to counsel you on your options and will not pressure you to make any decisions that you do not want to make.

What to expect:

During the upcoming Open Enrollment, the Ward Services Benefits Counselors will be in your schools and other locations to meet with you one-on-one to discuss your current benefit elections as well as new benefits available to you. Ward Services will discuss District/State provided benefits including medical/health options, dental, vision, life insurance and flexible spending accounts. Ward Services is also making available voluntary/supplemental benefits that the District has approved and that complement the medical plans to provide an optional layer of protection. Voluntary Benefits are optional and paid for by each employee.

There will be much more information provided via email, videos, and posters and through your principal as we get closer to Open Enrollment. This information will detail the changes you can make, how to schedule your meetings, and what new benefits are available.

What changes can you expect?

The enrollment process will include new communication and a new online appointment scheduler that you can use to select the most convenient time for your meeting. Voluntary benefits, similar to those offered in the past, will be available. These include a customizable Universal Life with Long Term Care benefit, a Short-Term Disability benefit, a Critical Illness/Cancer benefit, a Cancer Treatment benefit and an Accident benefit.

For those employees that currently have one or more voluntary benefits, those benefits and the payroll deductions will continue. No changes will be made to those benefits. The Ward Services Benefits Counselors will assist you in comparing your existing voluntary benefits to the new benefits available to determine your best options.
