About The School

School History

Brown's Ferry Elementary school is located in Georgetown, SC. Our school was named for Brown's Ferry, which was used in the antebellum era to transport goods across the nearby Black River. The Brown's Ferry Vessel, discovered on the bottom on the Black River, is the oldest wooden boat in America. The school was built on land purchased in 1956 from Mr. Sam Washington of the Brown's Ferry Community. Brown's Ferry School was established in 1957. It is a neighborhood school located in the Brown's Ferry Community. The school originally housed grades one through seven. It served students in the Brown's Ferry, Oatland, Dunbar, and Lanes Creek Communities. In 1979 students in the Choppee and Pee Dee Communities also attended Brown's Ferry Elementary School. Construction to add new classrooms began in 1989 and was completed soon thereafter. Since then, the building has been renovated and more classrooms were added in the Summer of 1999, due to increased enrollment and new educational services. The current staff serves approximately two hundred students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade.
