Child Find Clinics (BabyNet)

What is Child Find Clinic?

Child find is a part of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that requires individuals who may have a disability to be located, identified and evaluated. This clinic focuses on identifying developmental delays and disabilities in children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years old not enrolled in a public school program. The developmental screening and evaluation are free of charge. However, a parent must give written permission for the screenings. An adult must accompany the child throughout the screening process. We provide evaluations, as necessary, and work collaboratively as a team with parents to develop individualized services across a full range of community-based and school-based options.

See Related Documents for information on the dates and locations of the upcoming Child Find Clinics. It is recommended that you make an appointment by contacting Reanna Cohens at (843) 436-7118 or rcohens@gcsd.k12.sc.us.

Once your appointment is scheduled, you will receive a packet in the mail. Please bring the completed packet and the following forms to your appointment:

  • Birth Certificate

  • Immunization Record

  • Medicaid Card, if applicable

The screening team will complete:

  • Vision and Hearing Screening

  • Developmental Skills Screening

  • Communication Skills Screening

  • A review of all information gathered

Following the completion of the screening and a review of the screening results, the team will make recommendations and appointments with you if any follow up observations, or evaluations are necessary.
