Student Information

Howard Adult Center

Georgetown County Adult Education follows all district policies regarding student behavior. Adult Education students are expected to adhere to the rules outlined in the Regulations for Student Conduct. All violations will be dealt with accordingly, first by the classroom teacher and then by an administrator, who may use a variety of corrective actions. Failure to adhere to the administrator's corrective action will be viewed as a defiance of authority.

Regulations for Student Conduct

The following rules and regulations are considered top priority by the staff of adult education.  Any violation of these rules will require immediate action on the part of any staff member and could result in immediate removal of the student.

  • Absolutely no illegal drugs or weapons are allowed on campus.

  • Tobacco use is not permitted on the campus, including the parking lot.

  •

No loitering is allowed in the parking lot or in automobiles.

  • Book bags, large purses, and duffel bags are not allowed on campus.

  • Students are to obey all instructions by teachers/staff members, and students must practice patience when waiting for assistance.

  • Clothing worn to schools must be appropriate.  Students’ hats and other headgear must be removed upon entering the building.

  • Pants are to be worn at the waist. No under garments are to be visible.

  • Students are not allowed to sell any items at school unless previously approved by staff.

  • Students are not allowed to bring guests to visit during the school day unless previously approved by staff.

Possession and/or Use of Alcoholic Beverages,

Drugs & Other Substances

Sale, distribution, use or possession of alcoholic beverages, controlled inhalants, illegal drugs, marijuana, or other dangerous substances is not permitted by students in school buildings on school grounds, or at schools functions.  Also, the sale, distribution, or obsessive use of prescriptions, patent or imitation drugs are not permitted.  Violation of this policy may result in immediate removal from the adult education program and activities.

Prohibited Articles

Students may not have any articles which may be hazardous to the safety of others. Such articles would include, but not be limited to, pocketknives, multi-tools with knife blades, sharp objects, or weapons of any kind.

Dress Code

Student dress and grooming should be neat, clean, and appropriate. The Board reserves the right to bar from school those students whose personal appearance is disruptive to the educational process and orderly operation of the school or presents a health or safety concern.
As long as clothes are not disruptive to the educational process, as judged by the administrative team of a school, the attire will be acceptable.

Clothing must be worn as the manufacturer intended. In complying with the above, the following guidelines are suggested:

  • Belts should be buckled, sashes tied, and buttons buttoned, except at the neck.

  • Pants should be worn at the waist.

  • Shoe laces should be tied, buckled or worn as the manufacturer intended. Shoes that cause undue attention or a health and safety hazard should be avoided.

  • Clothing, buttons, signs or other adornments which display pictures or language of an obscene nature or are related to the use of consumption of alcoholic beverages or controlled substances should not be worn.

  • Hats, caps or head scarves should not be worn inside the building.

  • Sunglasses should not be worn inside the school, unless they are necessary for correction of medical problems.

  • Students’ hair, including any facial hair, should be neat, clean and well groomed.

  • Clothes should be worn with appropriate undergarments. Undershirts customarily worn as undergarments should not be worn without shirts or blouses.

  • Undergarments should be covered by outerwear. Tank tops, sheer blouses or shirts that cause undue attention should be avoided.

  • Combs (except for barrette-style combs), hair curlers and picks should not be worn in the hair.
