Science and Health
Science is a body of knowledge, but it is also a method of learning about the physical universe by applying the principles of scientific inquiry. Middle and high school science instruction has been developed to support and strive to achieve the goal of the Framework for K-12 Science Education by the National Research Council of the National Academies (2012). Science and engineering practices are foundational in these efforts.
"The overarching goal of our framework for K-12 science education is to ensure that by the end of 12th grade, all students have some appreciation of the beauty and wonder of science; possess sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on related issues; are careful consumers of scientific and technological information related to their everyday lives: are able to continue to learn about science outside school; and have the skill to enter careers of their choice, including(but not limited to) careers in science, engineering, and technology.”
Goals for Science
Advocacy - bringing together stakeholders seeking to improve education and involve the community
Professional Development - working closely with the State Department of Education and science leadership organizations to support efforts to improve instruction and increase student achievement
Innovation in Curriculum Design & Methodology - identifying, designing, and disseminating innovative instructional tools and techniques to schools and educators.
Instructional Materials Support - supporting availability and effective use of curricula and materials.
