Georgetown, S.C. – Georgetown County School District (GCSD) continues to demonstrate strong academic growth, student progress, and college-and career-readiness, according to the 2025 South Carolina School Report Cards released today by the South Carolina Department of Education and Education Oversight Committee.
Report card results show several GCSD schools achieving Excellent ratings, with many others maintaining or improving performance in key academic and school climate categories. Schools across the district continue to see progress in academic achievement, student growth, and overall school performance.
“These results reflect the hard work and determination of our students, educators, and school families,” said Dr. Bethany A. Giles, Superintendent of Georgetown County School District. “We are proud of our progress and remain committed to academic excellence and student growth across every school. As we celebrate these accomplishments, we also recognize the importance of continued collaboration, support, and high expectations to ensure every student reaches their full potential.”
Steady Improvement Across the District
This year’s report cards highlight positive trends in multiple areas across grade levels:
Three schools earned an overall rating of Excellent
Nine schools received an Average rating
Four schools earned a Below Average rating
One school received an Unsatisfactory rating
Several schools demonstrated notable growth in student performance and academic indicators
Continued gains in college- and career-readiness measures at the high school level
GCSD’s results reflect an ongoing commitment to creating strong learning environments, expanding instructional supports, and increasing student opportunities.
Spotlight on Excellence
The Waccamaw attendance area earned recognition for consistent academic strength across grade levels, with Waccamaw Intermediate School, Waccamaw Middle School, and Waccamaw High School earning Excellent ratings.
“This success reflects a unified effort among students, families, educators, and support staff,” said Dr. Giles. “We are encouraged by these results and motivated to build on them districtwide.”
Commitment to Continuous Growth
“We continue to focus on strengthening instruction, expanding opportunities, and providing the support every student needs to be successful,” said Fedrick Cohens, Executive Director for Academics for Georgetown County School District. “This year’s results show we are moving in the right direction, and we will keep pushing forward with intentional efforts to elevate student achievement, enhance readiness, and ensure every classroom is equipped for success.”
Moving Forward
GCSD remains focused on preparing all students for success beyond graduation through expanded career pathways, rigorous academic programs, and strong community partnerships. The district is also prioritizing student support services, early literacy, and academic enrichment opportunities to accelerate growth.
“Our vision extends beyond test scores,” said Dr. Giles. “We are committed to preparing lifelong learners who are confident, capable, and ready for enrollment, enlistment or employment after high school.”
