Georgetown County School District uses an anonymous reporting application that features mobile phone, web and telephone reporting capabilities. “This app protects the anonymity of reporters while giving us the capability to message them if more information is needed. This can be especially important in cases where someone is contemplating self-harm,” said Superintendent Keith Price. In addition to the standard reporting method, there are links to a 24 hour tip line and the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.

The app can be downloaded through links found on the GCSD website. Each school has a unique code and users can enter as many locations as they wish. “Students are strongly encouraged to use this,” said Alan Walters, Executive Director of Safety and Risk Management. “Whether it’s bullying, drugs, weapons, threats to others or oneself, we need students to ‘See Something, Say Something’.” The app allows photos and videos to be uploaded as well.

The app has been provided to GCSD by the South Carolina School Boards Insurance Trust at no cost to the district. The current Quick Tip app will remain active and continue to be monitored.
