Parent/Guardian,
We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with the YMCA that will provide our 6th grade students the opportunity to participate in a three day Rip Current Ready Initiative!
This wonderful opportunity was created by the YMCA to give our students and families in the community the essential knowledge and confidence needed to stay safe in and around the water, especially near the coast.
Program Details & Simulator Trip
In-School Instruction: Students in 6th grade PE classes will receive two days of water safety instruction at WIS during PE. This training will focus on identifying the dangers of rip currents, prevention techniques, and basic rescue methods.
Rip Current Simulator: Day three of the program will provide students with an opportunity to apply these life-saving skills by participating in the rip tide simulator at the YMCA facility. This immersive experience is designed to reinforce the core survival skills: Float it - Don't Fight it and Swim - Float Swim.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Laurie Healan and Jenni Giltmier at the YMCA. Their efforts were instrumental in bringing this vital program to our students and community, including raising the necessary donations to ensure this water safety training is offered to all of our 6th grade students free of charge.
Please refer to the attached flyers for more detailed information about the program and to learn how you can contribute to future water safety initiatives through donation.
