Strickland Named Director for Special Services

At the July 18 Board of Trustees Meeting, Georgetown County School District named Tabitha S. Strickland as the District’s new Director for Special Services. Strickland is currently an assistant principal at North Central High School in Kershaw, South Carolina.

“We are very excited to welcome Mrs. Tabitha Strickland to our Special Services Department,” said Dr. Kendra Greene, Executive Director for Special Education. “Mrs. Strickland's wealth of knowledge and experiences will support our goals and initiatives for students with disabilities.”

Strickland brings over 15 years of experience in special education having served as an implementation support coordinator and high incident consultant in the SC Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Services for five years, a special education coordinator for the Berkeley County School District, and a LEAD special education teacher and department head at Cane Bay High School. As GCSD’s Director for Special Services, she will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal, State and local regulations, directing services for students within and between schools, directing professional development for special education teachers and paraprofessionals, and facilitating communication with parents and advocates regarding delivery of special education services.

Strickland holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; certification in special education in learning disabilities from the University of North Carolina at Fayetteville and Pembroke; a Masters of Science in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke; and is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in special education leadership at the University of South Carolina.
