It has been a busy week, but a very IMPACTful week!
It was filled with so many moments that I could have captured. I have, however, chosen my Leadership Walk at Carvers Bay Middle STEAM Academy as this week’s IMPACTful Moment.
When I entered the front office, I was greeted with kindness and that continued as I walked and talked with the Building Manager. I was able to stop in and observe a collaborative planning session focused on meeting our students where they are and taking them to the next level.
Isn’t that what it is all about?! Guiding students to their pathway to success. I believe every student deserves a pathway!
Interestingly, I rang the doorbell to enter a classroom and was greeted by David, who gave me an insightful explanation of the learning taking place and even offered for me to sign in and join them.
Continuing my walk, I was fortunate to see our wonderful GCSD painters. The halls were bright, clean, and looking great, a definite photo-op moment! And they know my favorite color for sure!
I certainly appreciated a moment to say thank you to our SRO on duty, A. Sierra. And lastly, lunch was ready to be served and smelled great!
This IMPACTful Moment once again reminds me that Every Role. Every Student. Every Day. makes a significant IMPACT on improving student outcomes.

GCSD is helping the next generation of educators G.R.O.W.!
Last Friday, ProTeam and Teacher Cadet students from across Georgetown County School District came together for the GCSD G.R.O.W.S. event—an opportunity to explore careers in education and learn more about the many pathways to becoming an educator.

Each week, I have the pleasure of participating in conversations with members of #TeamGCSD. On Wednesday, two conversations in particular hit differently and have stayed with me.
In the first, an administrator reflected on an interaction with a Pre-K student and said something that really stuck with me: “I thought I was having the IMPACT on him, but it turns out he was having the IMPACT on me.”
In the second, a teacher shared something seemingly simple, yet powerful: “The best we can do is show up every day.” She added, “The small things matter.”
There is so much truth in that.
Show up. Every day.
Show up for our students. Show up for our schools. Show up for our coworkers. Show up for ourselves.
Because it matters.
We don't always get to see the IMPACT we are making. We may never know which conversation, lesson, smile, word of encouragement, or simple act of being present makes a difference in someone's life.
And sometimes, we may think we are the ones making the IMPACT, only to realize that someone else has made an IMPACT on us.
That is what makes #TeamGCSD so special. We never know where the IMPACT will come from or how it may come back to us.
So, my reminder to myself and to #TeamGCSD is simple:
Keep showing up.
Every role.
Every student.
Every day.
Kindness Wins.

This week’s IMPACTful Moment is one that makes me especially proud of #TeamGCSD.
I was so delighted to receive this update and photo. This week, 101 students officially began their journey as members of the USC School of Pharmacy Class of 2030, including three Georgetown High School graduates from the Class of 2024. Congratulations Mackenzey Smith, Addisyn Jones, and Neykisse Gilliyard. What an incredible accomplishment!
Over the past several weeks, I have also had the privilege of talking with several of our recent graduates as they prepared to leave for college and begin their next chapter. We also salute those graduates who are entering the military or beginning their careers in the workforce.
Different paths. Different dreams. But each one represents the IMPACT of years of hard work, determination, and preparation.
As a school community, we are incredibly proud of these young adults. And we should also be proud of the teachers, counselors, administrators, support staff, families, and countless members of Team GCSD who played a role in helping prepare them for what comes next.
Our work is reflected in every test score, every diploma, and every opportunity our students are prepared to pursue after they leave us. Our collective IMPACT is seen in the lives they go on to lead and the difference they go on to make.
To our graduates: We are proud of you. We believe in you. And remember—you will always have a home and a school community that is cheering you on.
Congratulations to these students, and to the parents and families who have supported, encouraged, and celebrated every step along the way.

GCSD will offer several ONLINE bus driver training classes this summer, including both daytime and evening options:
• June 8-11 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
• June 15-18 | 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
• June 22-25 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
• July 6-9 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
• July 20-23 | 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
• July 27-30 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Interested applicants should:
1. Click on Employment Opportunities and complete the Bus Driver application.

GCSD is proud to honor all graduates and celebrate this important milestone with the Class of 2026. Unless otherwise noted, all graduations will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the high school’s football stadium.

* Gates for ticketed guests will be open from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. Gates for guests without tickets will be open from 7 p.m. - 7:25 p.m., as space and seating allow. All gates will close at 7:30 p.m. Gates will reopen following the processional and national anthem.
Safety and security remain the District’s top priority. Please be aware of the following safety protocols and procedures:
● Metal detectors and/or Open Gates will be used. Law enforcement and safety officials will be present.
● Clear Bag Procedures (jpeg) will be enforced. Small clutch bags no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” will be allowed.
● Prohibited items include but are not limited to: firearms/knives/pocket knives/concealable weapons; mace/pepper spray; coolers; alcoholic beverages; laser lights/laser pointers/strobe lights; fireworks/explosives; artificial noisemakers; inflatables (beach balls, etc.); balloons; and signs.
● Guests are permitted to bring sealed bottles of water. All other food and beverages are prohibited.
● The use of any tobacco product, electronic cigarettes, or vapes is prohibited on all District property, including but not limited to, school buildings, athletic facilities, District vehicles, and parking lots.
The weather forecast will be monitored daily. In the event of rain or inclement weather, the scheduled graduation will be moved to the high school’s gymnasium. Due to capacity restrictions, only ticketed guests will be permitted into the gymnasium or auditorium. Additionally, in the event of inclement weather, only employees working at the host school will be admitted with a valid employee ID; all other employees must present a ticket for entry. Tickets will be marked for entry. Each school will announce prior to graduation which tickets allow entry into the gymnasium.

Held at the South Carolina State House, this statewide event honors outstanding high school seniors who have committed to pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The ceremony recognizes students’ academic achievements and connects them with leaders in education and industry as they prepare for their next steps.
As part of this prestigious recognition, Aeryn was awarded a $2,500 scholarship in support of her future in STEM.
We are incredibly proud of Aeryn’s accomplishments and look forward to all she will achieve.
