Due to the forecasted winter weather conditions, Georgetown County School District (GCSD) will dismiss early on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. This decision, made in consultation with the National Weather Service and Georgetown County Emergency Management, is based on predictions of wintry precipitation and the potential for hazardous driving conditions later in the day on Tuesday.
Dismissal Times:
Elementary Schools: 11:00 a.m.
Intermediate School: 11:15 a.m.
Middle and High Schools: 12:15 p.m.
All afterschool activities, including athletic competitions and practices, are canceled or postponed for Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Additionally, the GCSD Board Work Session scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.
The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. A decision regarding GCSD’s operational status for Wednesday will be announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these weather conditions.

GCSD is closely monitoring next week’s weather forecast in coordination with the National Weather Service and Georgetown County Emergency Management. A decision regarding school operations will be made closer to the potential weather event, once more accurate forecasts and information are available. If any changes to school hours or closures are necessary, families and staff will be notified on Monday.

Pathways to Possibilities (P2P): Inspiring Our Future Leaders!
This week, on Wednesday, January 15, and Thursday, January 16, 2025, Georgetown County School District's 8th graders attended the exciting Pathways to Possibilities (P2P) event at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center!
P2P offered an incredible interactive experience that helped students connect their passions with potential careers. With 19 career pathways represented (aligned with national and state education standards), professionals provided hands-on experiences to give students a glimpse into various fields. They shared insights about their careers, including the education and training required to succeed.
Georgetown High School was proud to have two of its Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs—Culinary Arts and Cosmetology—represented at the event. Current high school students in these pathways served as presenters, showcasing their skills and inspiring 8th graders with real-life examples of success in these fields.
This two-day event brought together 8th graders from 10 counties—Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, and Williamsburg—creating a dynamic and enriching environment for career exploration.

Each year, the South Carolina School Boards Association asks board members from around the state to recommit to fulfilling their roles in a fully informed and ethically committed manner. Serving as a board member and representing the students, employees, and families of Georgetown County is a role that our board members take seriously and have a great deal of pride in. As part of their renewed commitment, GCSD's Board of Trustees participated in the signing of the 2025 Ethical Principles poster during the January 7, 2025 board meeting.

GCSD believes that parents and families play a vital role in their children’s success. Research shows that when parents are actively involved—reading together, checking homework, building relationships with teachers, and staying engaged—students achieve more, attend school regularly, and grow in confidence.
During American Education Week, we are reminded of the power of our partnership with our families. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in our children’s education and future. Thank you for the love, consistency, and support you show each day—it truly shapes their journey. Let’s continue working together to help every child reach their fullest potential.

On Thursday, former South Carolina news anchor Christel Bell brought her new children's book, Christel’s Breaking News, to students at McDonald Elementary and Brown’s Ferry Elementary.
Bell’s visit to McDonald and Brown’s Ferry promoted literacy and inspired young minds to dream big. Her book, Christel’s Breaking News, follows young Christel, a vibrant girl who dreams of one day becoming a news anchor. The story encourages children to see themselves in a variety of roles and envision limitless possibilities for their futures.
