Board of Directors

The governing board consists of 9 members, 4 appointed members and 5 elected members, at least 3 of which are non-parent/guardian residents of Georgetown County, as outlined in the South Carolina Charter Schools Act (SC Code of Laws Title 59, Chapter 40), as amended, and the CMCS Charter and Bylaws. CMCS seeks a diverse board with the skills needed to govern a public charter school. Per law, at least 50% must have experience in business or kindergarten-high school education. Board directors are responsible for the long term sustainability of the school.

CMCS Board of Directors meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m., at CMCS: 111 Old Plantation Drive, Pawleys Island, SC 29585, unless otherwise noted. They are open to the public with the exception of Executive Session.

Meagan Leventis

Meagan Leventis

Board Chair

Meagan is a native of South Carolina and has lived in the lowcountry since the early 2000s. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Political Science. She is an Account Executive with Govplace – a technology solutions company focused on serving the federal government. She has served on the All Saints Church School board and steering committees in some capacity over the past 11 years. She also served on the Georgetown County Superintendent's Cabinet for the 2019-2020 term and as the secretary for the CMCS board for the past two years. Meagan loves to travel with her husband, Todd, and children, Wade (a Waccamaw High School student and former CMCS Stingray), Claire and Ellis (who both attend CMCS).

Nicole Isaia

Vice Chair

Nicole is from a military family and has lived all over the US and internationally. She recently moved to Georgetown County with her family in 2021. Prior to settling her family in South Carolina, Nicole worked as a clinician and research scientist at the Center for Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences Research at Stanford University School of Medicine. She also worked at the Veterans Affairs Health Care System conducting neuropsychological evaluations and providing cognitive rehabilitation. She is currently self-employed as a Neuropsychological Consultant and Wellness Coach. In her free time she loves to go to the beach, garden, and spend time with her husband Matt and her two children (who attend CMCS).

Rick Richardson

Rick Richardson

Treasurer

Rick was born in Conway, South Carolina and has lived in Pawleys Island for 22+ years. He is currently the Vice President of Business Development for Signature Performance, a healthcare administrative services firm based in Omaha, Nebraska. A member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Rick is a certified Lay Minister and serves on various committees, including Missions, Church Council, Youth and Finance. He graduated Wofford College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Spanish and holds a Master of Business Administration from Winthrop University. Rick enjoys long walks, kayaking, and spending time with his wife, Holly and two daughters, Maggie and Hope (who attends CMCS).

Ricky Ferdon

Ricky Ferdon

Ricky is a lifelong resident of Georgetown County. He is a product of the Georgetown County School District, graduating from Winyah High School in 1973. He is a 1978 BA graduate of the University of South Carolina Coastal Carolina Campus.

Ricky was successful in business for some 40 years.

He is a NFHS Nationally Accredited and Certified Interscholastic Coach. Coach Ferdon has been a volunteer Assistant Coach at Waccamaw High School in 3-sports. Coach Ferdon also served as a substitute teacher for K-12 and special needs.

Ashley Nelson

Ashley Nelson

Ashley is a native of Pawleys Island. Currently Ashley is the Senior Director at the Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation. She serves on The Village Group board, the School Improvement Council at Waccamaw High School and the HGTC Foundation Board. Ashley is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Mu Phi Omega Chapter. She is a member of Leadership Grand Strand Class 40 and holds an MBA in Human Resources Management from Strayer University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Winthrop University.

Ashley is an active member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and the proud mother of one daughter, Aubree McKenna.

Freddie Young, Jr.

Freddie Young, Jr.

Freddie Young, Jr. was born and raised in Gretna, Louisiana, and graduated from Lincoln High School. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and transferred to Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He also received his Master of Education in Behavioral Science specializing in Emotional Disturbance, Maladaptive Behavior, and Corrective Behavior. In 1976, he was hired by the Georgetown County School District at Howard High School and was a part of the first faculty members at Georgetown High School in 1983. He retired from teaching in 2010. During this time at Howard and Georgetown, he coached football, basketball, and track and field. He was also an assistant football coach at Choppee High School and Boys B-Team Basketball coach at Waccamaw Middle School. During his retirement, he has enjoyed substitute teaching, officiating track and field events, volunteering with local sports teams. He enjoys the outdoors, walking, biking, and traveling. He is a member of First Cavalry Missionary Baptist Church in Georgetown. He is married to Patricia Singleton-Young, a retired college educator, and has three children.
