🏌🏽♂️⛳ Project-Based Learning in Action at PEDIS!
Mr. Lorenzo is leading our 2026 Golf Unit in PE, where students are learning how to improve their golf swing by applying key concepts like balance, backswing, and force.
Through hands-on practice, teamwork, and critical thinking, students are building skills, analyzing their technique, and even learning how to coach others! 💪🏽
At PEDIS, we’re not just playing the game — we’re learning the science behind it.

In Ms. Powel's 1st grade class....learning came alive!! Our scholars explored their five senses in a fun mini lab to strengthen their descriptive writing skills. The best writing helps you see it, hear it, smell it, taste it, and feel it!

Students took surveys, organized their data, and compared each category as they explored math in action. Hands-on learning, big thinking, and lots of excitement in the classroom!

Students shared their favorite things and turned their ideas into graphs, learning how to collect and represent data in an exciting way. Way to go, first grade!

They also learned how controlled burns 🔥—first used by Native Americans—help longleaf pines thrive. Students discovered how replacing longleaf pines with faster-growing loblolly pines changed the habitat here in Georgetown County, and how Hasty Point is now restoring the ecosystem by replanting longleaf pines 🌱 and using controlled burns.
They also studied the rich (and difficult) history of the plantation 🕊️, once a rice field farmed by enslaved people, and practiced real science skills by collecting tree data using dichotomous keys and clinometers 📏📊.
Such a powerful day of learning, science, and stewardship! 💚🌎

Mrs. Chastain's 3rd graders teamed up to explore the incredible world of biomes! Each group became experts on one specific biome and then taught their classmates what they learned.
From deserts to rainforests, they discovered the 5 major biomes and all the amazing plants and animals that call them home!

Ms. Powell's 1st grade class used Discovery Education's Interactive lessons to dive deeper into how plants grow and thrive.
