Dear Warrior Students and Families,
At Waccamaw High School, we believe that consistent attendance is the foundation of student success. Being in class every day on time leads to better grades, stronger relationships, and greater opportunities for the future!
Please review the key guidelines below regarding attendance, seat time recovery, and late arrival/early dismissal procedures.
5 Tips for Attendance Success
Be Consistent: Prioritize being at school every single day.
Be On Time: Arrive promptly to start your day strong.
Stay Engaged: Active class participation leads to better learning outcomes.
Ask for Help: Don't hesitate to reach out to teachers or counselors when needed.
Think Ahead: Building great attendance habits today opens doors tomorrow.
Attendance Requirements & Seat Time Recovery (STR)
To stay eligible for course credit and Exam Exemption consideration (5 or fewer absences required):
90-Day Courses: More than 5 unlawful absences will require Seat Time Recovery (STR).
45-Day Courses: More than 3 unlawful absences will require Seat Time Recovery (STR).
10 Consecutive Absences: May result in truancy action and potential withdrawal from school.
Exempt Absences (Will NOT count against Seat Time or Exam Exemptions):
In-School Suspension (ISS)
Official College or Military Visits (up to 3 per school year)
School-sponsored extracurricular activities and field trips
Late Arrivals & Early Dismissals
Late Arrivals: Students arriving more than 10 minutes late will be coded SC-LATE. Repeated lateness may lead to disciplinary action.
Early Dismissals: Must be pre-approved by the Front Office. Parents must submit an early dismissal note at least 2 hours prior to dismissal time.
Instructional Time: Leaving more than 45 minutes early or arriving 45 minutes late may result in an unexcused absence for that block.
