Hunter Eddy Named New Principal of Waccamaw High

Hunter Eddy, Waccamaw's New Principal

Waccamaw High School will soon welcome a new principal. Starting July 1, 2024, Hunter Eddy will take over as principal of Waccamaw High.

Superintendent Price commented, “Mr. Eddy has served as a dedicated member of the Waccamaw High family for a number of years and is recognized among his faculty, his students, and his community as a leader with high character and high expectations.  The value he places on relationships with everyone involved within the education system and his tireless work ethic make him a wonderful match for the characteristics we were looking for in our next principal for WHS.  I look forward to seeing Waccamaw High continue to flourish under his leadership.”

“Mr. Eddy has demonstrated a commitment to fostering a positive climate where every student will be college and career ready,” shared Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bethany Giles. “Through a blend of academics, arts, and athletics, he will continue to advance the mission of WHS.”

Eddy currently serves as the assistant principal at WHS. He will replace current interim principal, Dr. David Hammel.

Upon acceptance of his new position, Eddy shared, “ I appreciate the trust Mr. Price, the district staff, and Board of Trustees have shown by appointing me as the next principal of Waccamaw High School. Being part of the Waccamaw family is truly a blessing, and we will continue to strive for excellence in making Waccamaw High School one of the best schools in the nation.  I would like to thank all the staff and previous administrators I have had the privilege of learning from and hope they will continue to advise me as we begin the next chapter at Waccamaw High.”

Education is a second career for Eddy.  Prior to joining GCSD in 2013, he served as an officer in the United States Army and worked in the financial  sector.  Eddy joined the faculty of Carvers Bay High in August 2013 as  social studies teacher. He transferred to Waccamaw High in 2015 where he taught Government and Economics and was Director of the Warrior Online Academy before being appointed assistant principal in 2018.

Congratulations, Mr. Eddy!
