Georgetown, SC – During the June 3 meeting of the Georgetown County School District (GCSD) Board of Trustees, the Board approved the appointments of two key leadership positions: Sherri Forrest as Deputy Superintendent and Kalu Kalu, Jr. as Chief Human Resources Officer.

Superintendent Dr. Bethany A. Giles expressed her confidence in both leaders and their ability to strengthen GCSD’s mission of excellence:

“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Forrest and Mr. Kalu to #TeamGCSD,” said Dr. Giles. “I am confident that their experience, along with their commitment to student achievement, academic success, and professional growth, will have a positive impact on GCSD’s students and staff.”

Ms. Sherri Forrest, a seasoned educator and leader, most recently served as Chief Academic Officer and Executive Director to the Superintendent for Atlanta Public Schools. She has also held roles at the Georgia Department of Education and Florida Department of Education, where she built statewide capacity for continuous improvement and instructional leadership.

Mr. Kalu Kalu, Jr. joins GCSD from Richland County School District One, where he served as Director of Certified Employment Services. With more than 15 years in school district leadership across South Carolina and Florida, Mr. Kalu has led human resources initiatives including recruitment, retention, and staff onboarding.
