For Immediate Release
Georgetown County School District is proud to announce that all 19 of its schools have been named recipients of the 2025 America’s Healthiest Schools Award. This national recognition is awarded to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting the physical, mental, and social-emotional health of students and staff.
To apply, each school submitted evidence of implementing best practices across a variety of focus areas. These areas include:
Supporting School Health Services
Implementing School Wellness Initiatives
Improving Nutrition and Food Access
Bolstering Physical Education and Activity
Enriching Health Education
Strengthening Social-Emotional Health and Learning
Promoting Tobacco-Free Schools
Cultivating Staff Well-Being
Increasing Family and Community Engagement
Several GCSD schools were recognized in multiple categories, showcasing the district’s dedication to the overall well-being of its school communities. Physical Education teachers played a key role in leading and supporting these efforts across the district.
All schools will be honored at the South Carolina Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (SCAHPERD) State Conference in November. Each school will also receive a large banner to proudly display this achievement on campus.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment, and I am incredibly proud of #TeamGCSD for making health and wellness a priority,” said Superintendent Dr. Bethany A. Giles. “Our students thrive when we support the whole child, and this recognition affirms the intentional work happening across GCSD.”
