GCSD Students Showcase Academic Excellence During 2026 Junior and Senior Academic Bowl Competitions

Georgetown County School District students demonstrated exceptional academic knowledge, teamwork, and competitive spirit during the 2026 Junior and Senior Academic Bowl competitions held this week in the Boardroom of the JB Beck Administration & Education Center.

The Junior Academic Bowl took place Tuesday, February 24, and featured middle school teams competing in a double-elimination tournament format. Each match included two rounds: a team response round and a toss-up round, challenging students across multiple academic disciplines.

Participating schools included Waccamaw Middle School (WMS), Rosemary Middle School (RMS), Carvers Bay Middle School STEAM Academy (CBMSA), Georgetown Middle School (GMS), and Coastal Montessori Charter School (CMCS). After several competitive matches, Waccamaw Middle School emerged as the tournament champion, with Coastal Montessori Charter School finishing as runner-up.

The Senior Academic Bowl was held Thursday, February 26, featuring teams from Andrews High School (AHS), Carvers Bay Early College and Career High School (CBECCHS), Georgetown High School (GHS), and Waccamaw High School (WHS). The high school competition followed a three-round format that included a team response round, toss-up round, and lightning round designed to test both knowledge and speed.

Waccamaw High School earned the championship title after a strong performance throughout the tournament, while Carvers Bay Early College and Career High School was named runner-up.

The Academic Bowl competitions are designed to promote academic achievement in a competitive and engaging environment where students demonstrate mastery of content across English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and current events while also developing collaboration and critical thinking skills.
