Georgetown County School District is proud to announce that 19 schools have been named 2026 America’s Healthiest Schools by Alliance for a Healthier Generation, with schools earning recognition in areas ranging from physical education and health services to social-emotional health and family engagement.

America’s Healthiest Schools recognizes K–12 schools across the country for their commitment to advancing whole child health. In 2026, schools nationwide were recognized for implementing policies and practices designed to support the health, well-being and academic success of students and staff.

GCSD schools received the following recognitions:

• Carvers Bay Middle STEAM Academy – School Health Services; Physical Education & Activity; Health Education; Social-Emotional Health & Learning

• Coastal Montessori Charter School – Physical Education & Activity

• Georgetown High School – School Health Services

• Georgetown Middle School – Physical Education & Activity

• Kensington Elementary School – School Health Services; Physical Education & Activity

• Maryville Elementary School – Physical Education & Activity

• McDonald Elementary School – Physical Education & Activity

• Plantersville Elementary Digital Immersion School – Physical Education & Activity

• Pleasant Hill Elementary STREAM Academy – Physical Education & Activity

• Rosemary Middle School – School Health Services; Physical Education & Activity; Health Education; Tobacco-Free Schools; Family & Community Engagement

• Sampit Elementary School – Physical Education & Activity

• Waccamaw Elementary School – Physical Education & Activity

• Waccamaw High School – School Health Services; Physical Education & Activity; Health Education

• Waccamaw Intermediate School – Physical Education & Activity; Health Education

• Waccamaw Middle School – Physical Education & Activity

Physical Education & Activity was the most widely recognized area among GCSD schools, reflecting efforts across the district to provide students with opportunities to be active and develop healthy habits as part of the school experience.

Several schools earned recognition in multiple areas. Rosemary Middle School was recognized in five categories, the most of any GCSD school, including School Health Services, Physical Education & Activity, Health Education, Tobacco-Free Schools, and Family & Community Engagement. Carvers Bay Middle STEAM Academy earned recognition in four categories, while Andrews High School, Carvers Bay Early College & Career High School, and Waccamaw High School were each recognized in three.

Giles, Superintendent of Georgetown County School District. “I am grateful for the teachers, school nurses, counselors, administrators, support staff, and so many others across #TeamGCSD who work together to create healthy, supportive environments where every student can learn, grow, and thrive. This recognition is a reflection of what we can accomplish when we work together for our students.” 

The different recognition areas represent the many ways schools contribute to student health and well-being. School Health Services recognizes efforts to address student health needs and connect students with appropriate support. Health Education and Physical Education & Activity focus on helping students develop the knowledge, skills and habits that contribute to lifelong wellness. Other categories recognize work supporting social-emotional health, tobacco-free environments, and meaningful family and community engagement.

America’s Healthiest Schools is an annual recognition program of Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The program recognizes schools for implementing evidence-based policies and practices that promote student, staff and family health and well-being.
