Shout-out to Noah and Brielle for leading the Number of the Day activities in Ms. Powell’s first grade—we are so proud of them!🌟🎉

Mrs. Halliday's 5th-grade class visited Hasty Point with Ms. Sarah Clarke 🌳, and they learned so much about our local ecosystem! Students explored how the Red-cockaded Woodpecker 🐦 makes its home in longleaf pine trees 🌲 and why these trees are so important.
They also learned how controlled burns 🔥—first used by Native Americans—help longleaf pines thrive. Students discovered how replacing longleaf pines with faster-growing loblolly pines changed the habitat here in Georgetown County, and how Hasty Point is now restoring the ecosystem by replanting longleaf pines 🌱 and using controlled burns.
They also studied the rich (and difficult) history of the plantation 🕊️, once a rice field farmed by enslaved people, and practiced real science skills by collecting tree data using dichotomous keys and clinometers 📏📊.
Such a powerful day of learning, science, and stewardship! 💚🌎
