April is recognized across South Carolina as the Month of the Military Child, honoring students whose parents serve and protect our country.
As part of this statewide recognition, Georgetown County School District has designated Wednesday, April 22 as our day to celebrate our military-connected students.
We invite all faculty, staff, students, and community members to wear purple tomorrow as part of “Purple Up! For Military Kids.” This is a simple but meaningful way to show appreciation and support.

Our rescheduled School Improvement Council (SIC) meeting will take place in person at 5:30 PM at Andrews High School. This one-hour meeting is open to the community and is designed to foster collaboration with community partners to strengthen our school and enhance student success. Congratulations to the following students, they will be recognized this evening at the Academic Scholars Recognition prior to the GCSD Board Meeting. The purpose of the GCSD Academic Scholars Ceremony is to recognize those high school seniors who have a combined score of 1200 or more on the SAT and/or 25 or more on the ACT.

Our very own, Grace Bratcher received a $2,500 scholarship from the Winyah Chapter of the DAR during a ceremony on Wednesday. April 15th. The scholarship committee recognized students in Georgetown County who exemplify accomplishments in our community and in hopes of supporting them as they grow and mature into competent, productive service providers and community leaders. Congratulations, Grace! We are so proud of you!
Kaleb Altman, a senior here at Andrews High School has been awarded the prestigious South Carolina Teaching Fellowship.
Kaleb will join the freshman cohort at University of South Carolina this fall where he will be offered numerous professional development opportunities and be involved with communities and businesses through various service projects and partnerships with local schools.
The state’s Teaching Fellows Program, operated by the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA), was established in 1999 by the SC General Assembly. The mission of the program is to recruit talented high school seniors into the teaching profession and help them develop leadership qualities. Each year, the program provides Fellowships for up to 215 high school seniors who have exhibited high academic achievement, a history of service to their school and community, and a desire to teach in South Carolina.
Applicants for the program undergo a rigorous selection process that includes an online application, an interview and presentation in front of a team of three educators, and a scored response.
Following the rigorous selection process, applicants who are awarded a Fellowship receive up to $24,000 in yearly scholarships (up to $6000 a year for four years) to attend a Teaching Fellows Institution in South Carolina. Each Fellow agrees to teach in South Carolina one year for every year he or she receives the Fellowship.
