Hello Bear Family!
Did you know April is the Month of the Military Child? 💜 Governor McMaster proclaimed it “Purple Up! For Military Kids” in South Carolina. GCSD will celebrate on April 22 — we’re asking all faculty, staff, and students to wear PURPLE to show support for students with service-member parents.
Share photos of your school’s purple spirit using #PurpleUpSC and #TeamGCSD. Thank you for participating, and let's all PURPLE UP! 💜 💜 💜

🌱💚 Growing more than gardens… we’re growing community!

In honor of National Ag Day, our 4-H students took part in a meaningful community project by creating seed packs to share with others. These seed packs were delivered to the Carvers Bay Library, where community members can pick up seeds and start their own gardens—promoting sustainability, healthy living, and a love for agriculture.

We also extend a heartfelt thank you to the Georgetown County Farm Bureau for supporting this initiative by providing seeds for our project and donating plants for our school garden in honor of National Ag Day. Your generosity continues to make a lasting impact on our students and our school community.

We are grateful for such an amazing community partner as we continue to grow and serve together! 🌿🌼

Last night’s Literary Salon was truly one for the books ✨📚

Our CBMSA Bears showed up and showed out as six of our very own published student authors—Temperance Vandeross, Kamden Vandeross, Harmony Montgomery, William Dozier, Matthew Ridley, and Joseph McLean—took the stage to discuss their powerful pieces featured in Fright Club. Each scholar spoke with confidence, insight, and creativity, leaving the audience inspired and proud.

Guiding the conversation was published author Marlanda Dekine, who engaged our panelists with thoughtful questions that allowed their voices and stories to shine. She also blessed us with two of her own poems, and our students had the opportunity to turn the tables and ask her questions—what a full-circle moment!

The evening continued with a special book signing, where guests received autographed manuscripts from our student authors, followed by a lovely reception filled with celebration and community.

We are beyond proud of our young authors and grateful for an evening that truly captured the power of student voice, storytelling, and literacy at CBMSA 💛🐻 #SpringingIntoReading #CBMSABears #StudentAuthors #LiteracyMatters
